Sourdough: An Epicurian Adventure

welcome bakers

Thanks for stopping by my newly created HOOCH & STASH info & purchasing blog! My intention is to easily provide the hard-copy information included with every order directly on the web using a simple forum (like a blog) to share and submit updates for my customers - both past & potential.

Browse the info provided on my page along with the list of helpful links to help you get a feel for the process. There is no 'one right way' to maintain a sourdough starter so I encourage you to conduct your own research to obtain a well-rounded introduction.

I will be adding more links, recipes, updates, tips, FAQ's, etc. as the need arises. In he meantime, I plan on keeping this page simple. You'll get a basic education in reviving a starter, how it lives, what the stash likes, and what makes it thrive. Beyond that, your talent is your own....but if you have a passion for artisan baking like I do, this starter is a great place to start your journey.  In order to insure I'm selling a high-quality product, I constantly test and bake with a variety of starters to guarantee success. Should you have any issue getting your starter to revive, I of course will happily assist with some tips and replace your flakes if necessary, So not to worry!

Please note: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL BAKER and will never be! I'm a self-taught baker with confident traditional bread making skills, but while yeast recipes are consistent & easy to execute, I always wanted to try my hand at the good stuff. Thick, crunchy crust bread with chewy, bubbly texture and that signature sour flavor begging for butter & brie.  After a few trials, experiments, lots of luck and even more patience, I nailed it. So unlike my Maw'Maws gumbo or my top secret meatball recipe, I've made my perfect sourdough starter available to any & all who seek to cross one off their culinary bucket list. Order your Dried Flake Starter Kit today and turn flakes...into LOAVES!

Whoops!

beware the exploding stash

Need proof that HOOCH & STASH is a super-productive, highly-active starter? This is what happens to a stash container when it's given a good feeding, and the lid is sealed air-tight so that the happy gases can't escape! The left container is the old container which was left cracked and warped after the explosion!

REMEMBER: Always leave a loose lid on your container for a couple days after feeding to avoid a messy explosion!
